Gift Guide: New Car Owner

Looking for gifts for someone who just hopped into the seat of their first car ever — or just purchased the first new car — or just likes to drive?

Well, here are a few things I use in every vehicle:

  • Phone dash mount. With hands-free laws all over the country…and simple common sense…this is essential for corralling the phone where you can see and hear the directions without having it loose or in the way or in your hands. Bonus points for including a charge cord.
  • Seat belt clips. These make such a difference in comfort, keeping the belt in the place appropriate to the body rather than choking or decapitating the rider. My neck is happy (unless I get in a vehicle without these).
  • Tool kit. If you aren’t going to go with the whole enchilada, at least pull together a screwdriver, a pocketknife, a flashlight, and some cable ties to tuck away somewhere.
  • Decorations. They aren’t necessary, but they do add joy. Not everyone likes “stuff” on their ride, but if they do, decals or a custom car tag or a dashboard flower can be a nice touch.

I’m not a fan of visual clutter, so I tend to stash everything in existing compartments. I do have one tote bag that holds work gear and some items that won’t fit, however. You can get an overview of my system here and here. But if I were to use or recommend an organizer, it would be similar to these.

Gift Guide: New RV Owner

Good tools make such a difference! If you are looking for gifts with that kind of impact for a new RV owner, here are a few tried and true staples of our roaming household:

  • Hangers that stay on the rod. After multiple set-ups that included picking up all the hanging clothes off the floor of the closet…sigh…I found these that will stay put. Joy!
  • Spare tire cover. You can choose cute, or beautiful, or custom to gift a statement piece that will also keep the tire from deteriorating as fast as possible.
  • Sticky stuff. Command hooks didn’t hold as well as we needed, nor do they hold something firmly in place, so a recommendation from a friend brought us to this. It’s good for holding plants on the counter or the clock on the wall or shelves in the cupboard.
  • Cordless tire inflator. This has been used to the max! Tires a little low and need a top-off being hitting the road. Here you have what you need. A lifesaver that has been in and out of our truck more times than I can count.
  • Travel map stickers. Where have you been? Keep track and share your progress with this decal. Fun to look at and even more fun to fill in.
  • Leveling blocks. Not every site is level, so these versatile, yet compact, blocks provide the help needed when setting up.
