Looking for gifts for someone who just hopped into the seat of their first car ever — or just purchased the first new car — or just likes to drive?
Well, here are a few things I use in every vehicle:
- Phone dash mount. With hands-free laws all over the country…and simple common sense…this is essential for corralling the phone where you can see and hear the directions without having it loose or in the way or in your hands. Bonus points for including a charge cord.
- Seat belt clips. These make such a difference in comfort, keeping the belt in the place appropriate to the body rather than choking or decapitating the rider. My neck is happy (unless I get in a vehicle without these).
- Tool kit. If you aren’t going to go with the whole enchilada, at least pull together a screwdriver, a pocketknife, a flashlight, and some cable ties to tuck away somewhere.
- Decorations. They aren’t necessary, but they do add joy. Not everyone likes “stuff” on their ride, but if they do, decals or a custom car tag or a dashboard flower can be a nice touch.
I’m not a fan of visual clutter, so I tend to stash everything in existing compartments. I do have one tote bag that holds work gear and some items that won’t fit, however. You can get an overview of my system here and here. But if I were to use or recommend an organizer, it would be similar to these.
